Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced the arrest of two individuals linked to the militant group Al-Shabaab following an extended surveillance operation that tracked their intelligence-gathering efforts aimed at civilian targets.
The detainees include Zakariye, identified as the son of Saed Abdullahi Sulsul, who allegedly managed reconnaissance for potential attacks, and Abdullahi Ahmed Hassan, a government official accused of betraying his position by collaborating with the insurgency group. According to NISA, both suspects had been gathering critical information on civilian areas earmarked for potential violence.
The agency added that both suspects have confessed to their involvement in plotting attacks and acknowledged their roles in previous operations that inflicted harm on civilians.
NISA stated that the operation demonstrates the agency's proactive approach to dismantling extremist networks, ensuring public safety, and upholding national security.
