Mogadishu (HOL) – A Somali government delegation, led by Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, visited Iraq’s Border Forces headquarters during an official trip to enhance bilateral security cooperation.
The delegation included Deputy Police Commissioner General Abdalla Abdalla, Ministry Director-General Yusuf Ali, and Somalia’s Ambassador to Iraq, Ridwan Hirsi Mohamed.
During the visit, the Somali officials met with Major General Mohammed Abdul Wahab Sukkar, Commander of Iraq’s Border Forces, and other senior Iraqi military officials.
The Somali delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the critical roles of Iraq’s Border Forces, including their use of advanced technology and modern systems to secure the country’s borders with neighboring states. They also toured Iraq’s monitoring and control center in Baghdad, where real-time surveillance operations are analyzed to counter cross-border threats such as illegal migration and trafficking.
Minister Fartaag praised the professionalism of Iraq’s Border Forces, highlighting their efforts in combating illegal migration and human trafficking. He described these measures as exemplary practices for effective border management and emphasized the importance of adopting similar strategies in Somalia.
