Baidoa (HOL) — Security forces in Somalia's South West State have detained several individuals accused of spreading indecent content on social media, a move aimed at curbing behaviour deemed harmful to societal values in the region.

Captain Mohamed Yusuf Abdirahman, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Bay Region, announced the arrests during a press conference in Baidoa. He described the operation as part of a campaign to address the rising misuse of social media for "propagating content that violates cultural norms."

"Authorities are conducting thorough investigations and apprehending anyone found disseminating indecent material on social platforms," Captain Mohamed Yusuf said. "We have individuals in custody, and they will face legal proceedings in court soon."

The commander urged the public to assist security forces in identifying and reporting offenders. "We appeal to citizens to work closely with us to ensure our communities are free of such harmful behaviour. Vigilance is essential in protecting our social fabric," he added.

The crackdown comes amid growing concern over the proliferation of inappropriate content on social media in Somalia. Over the past few years, authorities have reported an increase in cases involving individuals using online platforms to share such material, prompting arrests and legal actions by government forces.

South West State's government has vowed to prioritize moral integrity and uphold cultural traditions, with social media monitoring now forming a critical part of these efforts.
