Mogadishu (HOL) – Somalia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, held discussions with Kenya's Deputy President, Professor Kithure Kindiki, at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral ties and advancing regional cooperation. Ambassador Fiqi, stopping in Nairobi on his return from diplomatic engagements in Cairo, emphasized Somalia's dedication to fostering peace, collaboration, and mutual progress in the East African region.
In a statement, Somalia's Foreign Ministry described the talks as part of ongoing efforts to deepen relations between the two nations, which share a long history of diplomatic and trade cooperation.
Although the Somali government provided no further details, local sources suggest the discussions included the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) role in the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and broader aspects of the new mission.
The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) officially replaced the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), marking a further step in transitioning national security responsibilities to that country's own forces.
