Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe departs for Kenya to meet with international partners

Saturday January 18, 2025

Kismayo (HOL) – Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe departed for Kenya on Saturday morning aboard a private plane, marking his first trip since his re-election as president of Jubaland—a result the Somali federal government has refused to recognize.

According to reports, Madobe is expected to meet with ambassadors from the international community in Kenya to discuss critical issues related to Somali politics. Key topics include Jubaland's ongoing conflict with the federal government and the development projects currently being implemented in the region.

Sources also indicate that President Madobe plans to travel to the United Arab Emirates for an official visit following his meetings in Kenya.

The dispute between Jubaland and the Somali federal government stems from constitutional amendments and changes to the electoral system, which have heightened tensions between the two sides. The federal government has even issued an arrest warrant for Madoobe, further deepening the rift.
