Mogadishu (HOL) – The federal government deployed additional troops to the Adan Laxey area in the Middle Shabelle region on Thursday as part of ongoing military operations against the extremist group Al-Shabaab.
The area, located near the town of Ruunirgood, has been a key battleground in recent weeks, with Al-Shabaab intensifying attacks in parts of Middle Shabelle.
Government forces have been conducting operations across the region in coordination with local fighters resisting Al-Shabaab.
Somali National Army Commander General Odawaa Yusuf Raage, Land Forces Commander Sahal Abdullahi Omar, and Military Court Chairman Hassan Ali Nur Shute have been in Middle Shabelle in recent days to oversee operations and boost troop morale.
The ongoing offensive is one of the most significant in the past year, with Al-Shabaab suffering heavy losses in recent air and ground operations.
