Puntland President Deni vows zero tolerance for Al-Shabaab, ISIS resurgence

    Garowe (HOL) — Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has vowed to take a tougher stance on security, warning that his administration will not allow any resurgence of militant groups in the region. He said that both Al-Shabaab and ISIS have been expelled from Puntland's Bari region and reaffirmed his commitment to keeping the area under firm government control.

    Speaking to traditional elders in Bari, Deni reaffirmed that neither Al-Shabaab nor ISIS retains operational control in Bosaso. He noted that government troops had cleared militant strongholds and announced plans to build roads in former conflict zones to improve troop movements and civilian mobility.

    "We have taken back control, and we will not tolerate any further threats to security," Deni said.

    Deni also declared a general amnesty for individuals with past criminal offences, stating that his government seeks to promote reconciliation. However, he issued a firm warning against those who continue to engage in destabilizing activities or maintain links to extremist groups, vowing decisive action.

    "On behalf of the government, I have granted a full pardon," he said. "But let me be clear—those who disrupt security or collaborate with terrorists will face serious consequences."

    The Puntland president praised traditional elders for their role in Operation Hillaac, a government-led initiative to stabilize the region. He added that the ongoing third phase of the operation aims to consolidate security gains and strengthen governance across Puntland.
