Somali government to launch major operation against Al-Shabaab during Ramadan

    Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre announced on Monday that the federal government will launch a major military operation against Al-Shabaab during the holy month of Ramadan.

    The operation is part of the government's ongoing efforts to combat the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group and reclaim territory controlled by the insurgents in south and central Somalia.

    Prime Minister Barre called on the Somali people, particularly clans, scholars, and intellectuals, to support the government forces in their fight against Al-Shabaab. He also emphasized that the Somali nation is aware of the propaganda and fake news being spread by the militants, and the government will take action to prevent anything that undermines the country's stability and security.

    "In the coming days, I will lead the Somali people in a direct fight against Al-Shabaab," Prime Minister Hamse stated.

    Barre further highlighted the presence of both internal and external enemies working to divide the Somali people and prevent them from benefiting from the resources in their land and from their unity. He stressed the importance of overcoming these challenges to ensure a better future for the nation.

    Somali officials have urged sustained military pressure to prevent Al-Shabaab from rebuilding its logistical network, while calling on international allies to continue supporting security operations. Despite losing territory in recent years, Al-Shabaab continues to carry out suicide bombings, assassinations, and large-scale attacks in urban centers.
