MOGADISHU HOL) - Militants from the Al-Shabaab terrorist group Friday forcefully whisked away about 50 cattle herders in Somalia’s Hiiraan region.
Sources in the region said the militants went away with the herders from Jujule and Ganu-ribad villages in Mahas district and their whereabouts now remain unknown.
Residents said the heavily armed militants forcefully took away the herders from their homesteads Friday afternoon.
According to the residents, the militants abducted the herders after they defied their orders to go with them.
The self declared vigilante group in the region, Ma’awisley has on for some time now fought back Al-Shabaab which in the past has forced locals to pay taxes.
There was no immediate comment from Somali security forces which operate in the area.
