Kismayo (HOL) - The head of Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in Gedo region was killed Thursday in a landmine explosion near Sul Alle village in the Luuq district.
Abdirahman Abdullahi (Bakal Kooke) was travelling towards Dolow district when his vehicle struck an IED placed on the road.
Six members of Abdullahi's security detail, including the driver, were seriously wounded in the blast.
The militant insurgency group Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
Jubbaland authorities said that an investigation was launched into the killing and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Kooke's death comes weeks after the Ethiopian government negotiated a meeting he met with Gedo regional Governor Ahmed Buule in Dolow town to discuss Gedo's leadership crisis and tax distribution.
