Two lower house MPs elected in Dhusamareeb town

Saturday February 12, 2022

DHUSAMAREEB (HOL) - The elections of two federal parliamentary seats have just concluded in Dhusamareb town in central Somalia.

The first seat (HOP 25) was won by Mohamed Abukar Ali Jafar who got 100 votes after his rival candidate, Hassan Ali Osman withdrew from the race.

In April, Jafar who is the incumbent Deynile district commissioner defected to the opposition following an outbreak of violence which was triggered by a two-year extension for President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.

The second seat, HOP 81, which was contested by two women, was won by Adar Ali Mohamed who received 71 votes by a landslide. Nasro Mohamed Dalabey who was battling for the seat withdrew before the elections kicked off.

Somalia is expected to conclude the lower elections late this month, paving the way for presidential elections.
