Mogadishu (HOL) - Following his visit to Somali air force graduates in Asmara, Eritrea, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed Major General Mubarak Abdiqani Muse as the new chief Commander for the Somali navy force on Monday.
President Mohamud directed the new Commander to carry out national plans to rebuild the Somali Navy forces capable of securing the country's waterways and defending the vast coastlines.
The Somali President, accompanied by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, inspected the Air Force graduates' training facility in Asmara. The Eritrean military said that the recruits received rigorous training.
Security experts predict that the President will change the commanders of the police, custodial corps and ministry commanders in the coming days as part of the government's efforts to reform the military and strengthen the country's entire security apparatus amidst the ongoing fight against al Shabab in several parts in the country.
Muse will replace Brigadier General Abdihamid Mohamed Dirir, who was appointed in October 2019 by President Farmajo and made headlines in December 2021 when he accused Prime Minister Roble of public land theft.
