President Mohamud meets FMS parliament speakers in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with regional state parliament speakers who attended the opening of Somalia's second session of parliament in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

The meeting, which took place at Villa Somalia on Thursday night, was also attended by Ms. Sadia Salad Samatar, the 1st Deputy Speaker of the House of People, the Speaker of the Upper House, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, and other members of parliament.

President Mohamud urged the federal and state legislatures to strengthen cooperation and collaborate to build the country's government to achieve Somalia at Peace with itself and the world.

He stated that the Somali people are awaiting the completion of laws that will strengthen the government. He emphasized the vital role of parliaments at the federal and state levels in the country's liberation and fight against al-Shabab terrorism.

Political analysts say that the new federal government prioritized strengthening relationships with regional parliaments and maintaining cooperation between the two houses of the federal parliament, as government and local forces liberated score villages from al Shabab in central Somali regions.

Regional parliament speakers commended the government's efforts to keep cooperation and political stability in the country.

Mohamud said Somalia enjoyed victories in the recent offensives against the Islamist militant group al-Shabab. He also praised local militias for helping in the fight against the militants, who he called "khawarijs," a term for someone who deviates from Islam.
