Kismayo (HOL) — A committee formed to resolve the clan conflict in Luuq district, Gedo region, has released key points related to resolving the bloody clashes that took place last week between two rival clans.

The committee members, led by First Vice President of the Jubbaland Administration Mahamud Sayid Adan, State Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ahmed Omar Mohamed, and other community elders, have been present in the district for the past few days. They issued decisions aimed at resolving the local clan conflict.

The committee's resolutions include the unconditional acceptance of a ceasefire by the warring factions and safeguarding the properties of civilians who fled the district.

State Minister Ahmed Omar Mohamed detailed to the media the five key points issued by the committee regarding the conflict:

  1. Unconditional Ceasefire: Both sides must implement a ceasefire without any preconditions.
  2. Peace Maintenance: General peace must be upheld in the area, and any individual responsible for violence should be dealt with through a collective decision.
  3. Preparedness for Dialogue: The conflicting parties must be ready for negotiations to resolve the issues.
  4. Avoid Provocation: Efforts should be made to avoid actions that could disrupt the peace process, including incitement of the community.
  5. Protection of Displaced People's Properties: The parties in the town must protect the properties of displaced individuals, ensuring no one is harmed based on their identity.

The committee's resolutions come amid warnings from Jubbaland leaders against those instigating the conflict. Vice President Adan emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further bloodshed and restore stability.

Jubbaland's leaders arrived in Luuq earlier this week as the conflict escalated to mediate and resolve the crisis. Their presence aims to reassure the local population and demonstrate the administration's dedication to security in the region.

The committee called on all residents of the Luuq district to contribute to peace efforts and urged the displaced people to return to their homes.
