Monday March 11, 2024

Mogadishu (HOL) - The governor of Banadir region and the mayor of Mogadishu, Yusuf Hussein Jim'ale Madale, has issued a warning to traders regarding the operation of restaurants and hotels in Mogadishu during fasting hours in the holy month of Ramadan.

"Ramadan is distinct from other months; it is a time of worship that must be respected. Therefore, hotels and restaurants in the capital city of Mogadishu are not permitted to open during this month. No one should be seen smoking or eating Khad or in a hotel that is open for dining. If any violations are found, licenses will be confiscated," stated Governor Madale on Sunday night.

The mayor also warned government soldiers against being observed on the streets of Mogadishu while they are not fasting.

The month consists of Muslims abstaining from food and water from sunrise to sunset as they reflect more deeply on their faith and hold family gatherings.
