The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition welcomed Brig. Gen. Abdulrahman Turayre, the delegate from Somalia, to the coalition’s headquarters in Riyadh.

With Turayre’s arrival, 33 countries have sent delegations to the coalition’s headquarters, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The secretary-general of the coalition, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, commended the Somali delegate’s arrival as a positive step taken by the leadership of the Somalian government to collaborate with the coalition.

The visit demonstrates Somalia’s recognition of the importance of combating terrorism and rejecting violent extremism, Al-Moghedi added.

He extended his wishes for the success of Turayre’s visit and highlighted the significant role of delegates in advancing the coalition’s strategic counterterrorism initiatives.

Given its geographical location in the eastern part of Africa and proximity to the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, Somalia plays a crucial role in countering terrorism in various forms, especially maritime terrorism, Al-Moghedi said.

He highlighted maritime terrorism perpetrated by extremist groups aiming to disrupt international development.

Al-Moghedi warned that such acts pose a threat to regional and global security, impacting freedom of navigation and economic supply chains.
