Advisor and special envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dahir Mohamud Gelle, stated on Thursday in Algiers that the relationship between Algeria and Somalia is “strong and fraternal.”
In a statement to the press following his meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Gelle, who delivered a letter from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, emphasized that Somalia “looks forward to the continuation of solid and fraternal relations with Algeria, as they have always existed, through bilateral meetings and coordination on crucial regional and international issues.” He further noted that the letter he presented addressed “the relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them, as well as matters of mutual interest.”
After expressing gratitude for the meeting with the President, the Somali advisor highlighted that his country has “regained its former standing,” recalling that next year Somalia will serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council alongside its ‘fraternal’ nation, Algeria.
“In this context, we shared positive developments with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune concerning Somalia, as well as regarding Arab, Islamic, and African issues,” he added.
Additionally, he mentioned sensing a significant interest from the President regarding the situation in Somalia and conveyed that he was tasked with sending greetings to his Somali counterpart.
