Mogadishu (HOL) — The Australian High Commission in Kenya has issued an open call for arts and creative organizations in East Africa to collaborate on cultural projects that strengthen ties with Australia’s vibrant creative sector. The partnership program targets organizations in Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Burundi, with projects set to run between February and July 2025.

The initiative focuses on fostering long-term partnerships between East African and Australian creative industries, allowing regional organizations to connect with Australia’s renowned cultural scene.

The High Commission is seeking
partners, not grant applicants, to co-develop creative initiatives. While projects can receive support of up to AUD 7,000 (approximately USD 4,350), the emphasis is on collaboration and mutual engagement rather than funding alone.

Applications are open until January 22, 2025, and must be submitted via the [official link](insert link here).

Eligibility Criteria

To participate, organizations must meet the following requirements:

  1. Organizational Type:
    • Be a registered charity, NGO, or company in the arts or creative sector.
    • Operate in Tanzania, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, or Rwanda.
  2. Australian Partnership:
    • Demonstrate an existing connection with an Australian creative organization or propose a collaboration in the application.
  3. Project Scope:
    • Activities must take place between February and July 2025.
    • Regional projects spanning multiple countries are encouraged.
  4. Engagement:
    • Projects must include public-facing elements in person or digitally to foster broad community participation.
  5. Experience:
    • Applicants should have prior experience collaborating with international partners or managing internationally supported projects.

Potential collaborative initiatives include joint performances, exhibitions, or regional tours that bring together artists from East Africa and Australia. Film screenings or creative outreach events aimed at engaging diverse audiences are also encouraged. Organizations might propose collaborative podcasts or digital campaigns to showcase shared cultural narratives. Additionally, regional arts programs connecting multiple East African countries can strengthen regional ties while fostering meaningful engagement with Australian partners.
