Jubbaland calls for unity in fight against extremist groups

    Kismayo (HOL) - Jubbaland’s regional administration has praised federal military forces and local clan militias for their ongoing offensive against extremist groups in the Middle Shabelle region.

    In a statement issued Wednesday, the Jubbaland State House emphasized that political divisions should not create opportunities for terrorist groups to regroup, warning that such circumstances undermine national efforts toward peace and development.

    “If these efforts are carried out collectively, they will yield tangible victories, eliminating extremist groups that threaten peace. A united front against terrorism is essential to securing long-term stability and national security,” the statement read.

    Jubbaland called for nationwide unity and collaboration in eradicating terrorism to increase lasting peace and sustainable development.

    “The Federal Government of Somalia, its member states, and all Somalis share a responsibility to build a secure and prosperous future for the country,” the statement added.

    The remarks from Jubbaland came just hours after former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo reiterated that the fight against Al-Shabaab and ISIS is a national duty, not a matter of political ideology or partisanship. He stressed the importance of unity to prevent militant groups from exploiting political rifts.

    The military campaign in Middle Shabelle has resulted in the deaths of more than 200 Al-Shabaab militants in coordinated land and air operations, marking one of the largest offensives in the region.
